The Foundation for Children with Oncological Diseases Krwinka [‘Blood Cell’] is, above all, about helping – with all our hearts and devotion – people with passion and great determination who stand behind it.
The foundation was established on the initiative of parents of children suffering from cancer. One of them is Elżbieta Budny, who consistently remains the President of the Board of the Foundation.
As a public benefit organisation, we support oncologically and haematologically ill children. We care for patients from different parts of the country but we are most closely associated with the Maria Konopnicka Paediatric Centre CSK Medical University Łódź, where thanks to our efforts and to the great heart of donators, we improve the conditions for the treatment of young patients.
For over 20 years, we have taken care of over six thousand sick children and their families. We are primarily there for them so that in their everyday struggles they don't feel lonely. We ensure them much-needed support and understanding. We are with them to bring a smile, carrying bundles of joy with which we want to fill their free time in hospital. We read books, organise games, plays and various activities.
We are not afraid of boredom!
It was thanks to the foundation's activities that it was possible to equip the hospital hotel for parents of hospitalised children, where you can find a bit of relief and peace of mind. The ‘Blood Cell’ also enabled the purchase of equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases. We organise rehabilitation and rest periods for children in the intensive phase of treatment, provide free psychological care, finance medicines and rehabilitation and give social assistance to children and their parents. The ‘Blood Cell’ also means events and workshops for children and volunteers with open and generous hearts. We have a ‘Blood Cell Transporter’ i.e. an ambulance for transporting children to radiotherapy, a specialist laser for removing the effects of chemotherapy and a modern bed for the youngest patients.
Our foundation's great success is, among others project financing and reconstruction of existing oncology and haematology departments for children at the hospital on Sporna Street. We have also ensured the establishment and equipment of the One-Day Ward for children who, according to the chemotherapy cycle, do not require continuous hospitalisation. We have funded the purchase of medical equipment and diagnostic devices, enabling more effective treatment of children with cancer from various regions of Poland. On the initiative of the foundation, "Odpoczywajka" [‘Chillout space’] was established. It is a unique place which becomes home to oncological patients (from different parts of Poland) whose treatment requires daily commuting to necessary medical procedures (e.g. monthly radiotherapy) but no longer need to be hospitalised.
All of the actions we take with the sick children in mind make their time of severe therapy more pleasant and create the proper conditions for them. We want to look after them so that they can recover with peace of mind. We receive help from donators, volunteers and all people who are not apathetic to the suffering of young patients.
