On May 28, 2026, Amelia underwent an MRI scan of her cervical spine due to persistent neck pain and stiffness. During the examination, doctors discovered abnormal lesions and tumors in the area of the cerebellum. The following day, with a referral from their family doctor, Amelia's parents took her to the Emergency Department at the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital – Research Institute (ICZMP) in Łódź. Amelia was admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery, where a brain MRI confirmed the findings and doctors decided that surgery was necessary.

On June 2, 2026, Amelia underwent surgery. During the procedure, surgeons partially removed the largest tumor as well as one smaller tumor. After the operation, she spent several days in the Intensive Care Unit before returning to the Neurosurgery Department on June 4. On June 16, the external ventricular drain was removed, and Amelia was transferred to the Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at the University Clinical Hospital (CSK).

"The diagnosis we received came as a complete shock. My husband and I felt as if it couldn't possibly be real," says Amelia's mother.

On June 19, 2026, Amelia began her oncology treatment. Histopathological examination confirmed a diagnosis of medulloblastoma, and due to the metastatic nature of the disease, she was classified as high-risk under the MB/PNET IP C2D treatment protocol. During her hospital stay, Amelia was also evaluated by specialists in cardiology, otolaryngology, neurology, and ophthalmology.

One of the possible side effects of her treatment is infertility. To preserve Amelia's chance of becoming a mother in the future, her parents made the difficult decision to have part of one ovary surgically removed and cryopreserved. At present, Amelia uses a wheelchair and can only walk short distances with the help of a walker and the support of her loved ones. Following surgery, she developed double vision and now requires intensive rehabilitation, as she has difficulty maintaining an upright posture on her own.

Despite everything she has been through, Amelia is coping remarkably well with her treatment. She knows that she will most likely lose her hair, but she says with a smile that it will grow back one day. Amelia has a younger sister, Julia, who is staying at home with their father and grandmother. The sisters share a very close bond, and being apart has been especially difficult for both of them.

"My husband and I truly believe Amelia will overcome this illness. We try to stay positive because that gives us the strength to keep going," her mother says.

Amelia loves reading books, painting, and singing. Before her illness, she enjoyed riding her bicycle, roller skating, and dancing—activities she is currently unable to do. She is a student at John Paul II Primary School in Góra Świętej Małgorzaty. She was due to start fourth grade in September, but because of her condition, she will continue her education through individual home-based instruction.

"We start each day with breakfast and medication. Then Amelia draws, reads, rests, and does her rehabilitation exercises. When we're at home and the weather is nice, we spend some time outside. We miss our family meals together, playing board games, going for walks, riding our bikes, watching cartoons, and our bedtime hugs," says her mother.

Amelia's parents hope to use the funds raised to cover the costs of her rehabilitation, helping her regain the independence and mobility she enjoyed before her illness as quickly as possible.
