Just a few months ago, 8-year-old Jakub Socha was the picture of childhood joy. Full of energy, curious about the world, and always smiling. He loved playing football, spending time with his friends, and enjoying a carefree childhood. Sadly, everything changed in an instant when Jakub was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive cancer – Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor (MRT).

At first, nothing suggested such a serious illness. Kuba began complaining of severe pain in his right arm and shoulder. The pain was especially intense at night, waking him from sleep and causing immense suffering. Soon, another alarming symptom appeared - drooping of his right eyelid. Concerned, his parents took him to their doctor, who immediately referred him to the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital – Research Institute in Łódź. Initially, Kuba was diagnosed with Horner syndrome. However, further imaging tests revealed the true cause of his symptoms: a tumor measuring approximately 6 centimeters. Jakub was urgently transferred to the Oncology Department of the Central Teaching Hospital (CKD) in Łódź, where his fight for life began.

The tumor is located at the apex of his right lung, extending into the upper thoracic opening and lying directly against his spine. It surrounds several critical blood vessels and nerve structures, including the subclavian artery, vertebral artery, brachial plexus, and sympathetic trunk. At present, the tumor cannot be safely removed. Any attempt at surgery carries an extremely high risk of life-threatening bleeding or permanent neurological damage. Jakub's medical team is doing everything possible to shrink the tumor through intensive treatment, giving him a chance to undergo surgery in the future.

Despite everything he has endured, Kuba continues to fight with incredible courage. He has already undergone three exhausting cycles of chemotherapy. Recently, he also underwent a stem cell collection procedure at a specialist medical center in Wrocław. In the future, these stem cells are expected to help rebuild his bone marrow after intensive treatment and enable further therapy.

Many more months of difficult treatment, hospital stays, and painful procedures still lie ahead. Cancer has taken away Kuba's chance to enjoy a normal childhood. Instead of school adventures and playing with friends, his days are filled with hospital rooms, IV infusions, and endless medical examinations.

Kuba dreams of running again, playing football, and spending time with his friends. Every day, his family and medical team are working tirelessly to shrink the tumor and give him the opportunity to undergo life-saving surgery. Every donation brings Jakub one step closer to the next stage of his treatment and gives his family hope that this incredibly difficult battle can be won.
