On August 31, 2023, the "CHECKING" conference was held. I'M RESEARCHING. START WITH BLOOD.” According to WHO data, over a million cases of blood cancer are diagnosed every year around the world. Thanks to breakthrough drugs, the prognosis of hemato-oncology patients has improved significantly in recent years, but early and accurate diagnosis is still very important - experts emphasized during an online conference organized by the Polish Coalition of Oncology Patients.

 

The event was attended by Elżbieta Budny, president of the "Krwinka" Foundation, together with the following experts:

 

– Prof. Ph.D. med. Joanna Góra-Tybor, Head of the Department of Hematooncology with the Day Chemotherapy Subunit at the Provincial Multidisciplinary Center for Oncology and Traumatology. M. Copernicus University in Łódź,

– Prof. Ph.D. n. med. Krzysztof Giannopoulos, Head of the Department of Experimental Hematooncology of the Medical University of Lublin,

– Prof. Ph.D. n. med. Agnieszka Wierzbowska, Head of the Department and Clinic of Hematology of the Medical University of Lodz,

– Prof. Ph.D. n. med. Iwona Hus, Head of the Hematology Clinic of the State Medical Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration in Warsaw, President of the Polish Society of Hematologists and Transfusionologists,

– Barbara Dziuk, Chairwoman of the Standing Subcommittee for Oncology,

– Krystyna Wechmann, President of the Polish Coalition of Oncology Patients Foundation,

– Katarzyna Lisowska, Leader of the Hematooncology Association.

 

 

Elżbieta Budny pointed out the need for oncological vigilance among parents, children and pediatricians. A warning sign may be an abnormal symptom such as blood in the urine or unusual swelling, and a simple blood test can help make the correct diagnosis.

 

The Polish Coalition of Oncology Patients brings together 47 organizations whose main tasks are: supporting patients, representing them in contacts with public institutions, exchanging experiences and creating a common health policy.
