On the occasion of the 600th anniversary of Łódź, the city decided to honor 600 distinguished residents for the activities carried out to date for the inhabitants of Łódź and the promotion of the city. The medalists are representatives of various areas of public life: scientists, social activists, people of culture, Łódź experts, teachers, athletes, but also "ordinary" residents whose extraordinary everyday work has not yet been known to a wider audience.

On Monday, July 10, 2023, an awards ceremony was held at the Izrael Poznański Palace by Hanna Zdanowska, the Mayor of Łódź. Elżbieta Budny, president of the "Krwinka" Foundation, received a medal for many years of activities for children with oncological and hematological diseases and their families.

 

– In this special year of Łódź's 600th anniversary, I would like us to recognize those who worked exceptionally hard for it - at the same time promoting Łódź and being a living advertisement for the city. We have 600 unique medals of the 600th anniversary of Łódź for them. However, I leave it to the people of Łódź to decide who they should go to. The inhabitants of Łódź know who is such a hero in your little homelands: in the housing estate, at school, in sports activities or in any other field - says Hanna Zdanowska, Mayor of Łódź.

 

The Chapter of Medals for the 600th anniversary of Łódź included: athlete Marcin Gortat, Dr. Tomasz Karauda, publicist Błażej Lenkowski, film producer Piotr Dzięcioł, entrepreneur Jacek Szwajcowski and director of the Museum of the City of Łódź Magda Komarzeniec (chairman of the Chapter).

 

– With these distinctions we want to say: "thank you" to people operating in various sectors and industries who do a lot of good in the field of sports, science, medicine and in every other area - emphasizes Magda Komarzeniec, director of the Museum of the City of Łódź. He adds: Our mission, since its inception, has been to restore the rightful places in Łódź's history to those figures who, despite great achievements, are sometimes forgotten.

 

Over 80 people were honored during the ceremony, and the remaining medals will be awarded until the end of 2023.
