On May 28, 2026, Amelka had an MRI of the cervical spine performed due to neck pain and stiffness. During the examination, changes were noticed – tumors in the cerebellar area.
The next day, with a referral from the family doctor, the parents took their daughter to the Emergency Department of ICZMP in Łódź. Amelka was admitted to the neurosurgery ward, where after an MRI of the head was performed, a decision was made to operate.
On June 2, 2026, the procedure was carried out, during which the largest tumor was partially removed along with one smaller one. After the operation, Amelka stayed in intensive care, and on June 4 she returned to the neurosurgery ward. On June 16, the external drainage was removed and a decision was made to transfer the girl to the CSK hospital, to the Department of Pediatrics, Oncology and Pediatric Hematology.
"The diagnosis we heard was a shock to us. My husband and I felt like this wasn't really happening" – says her mom.
On June 19, 2026, oncological treatment began. Amelka was histopathologically diagnosed with medulloblastoma and was qualified into the high-risk group of the IC2D protocol due to the disseminated nature of the cancer. During her stay on the ward, the girl was consulted by cardiology, laryngology, neurology, and ophthalmology specialists. Amelka is being treated according to the MB/PNET IP C2D protocol – high-risk group.
One of the possible complications of the treatment is infertility, which is why the parents decided on a procedure to remove and freeze part of an ovary, so that Amelka could become a mother in the future. At the moment, Amelka moves around in a wheelchair, and covers shorter distances with the help of a walker and her loved ones. Double vision appeared after the surgery. She requires rehabilitation, as she has difficulty maintaining an upright body position on her own.
Amelka is tolerating the treatment well. She knows her hair will most likely fall out, but she says new hair will always grow back. Amelka has a younger sister, Julka, who is staying at home with dad and grandma. The girls are very close to each other, and being apart is hard for them – they miss each other very much.
"My husband and I believe that Amelka will beat the illness. We try to think positively, because it gives us strength."
Amelka really enjoys reading books, painting, and singing. Before her illness, she loved riding a bike and rollerblading, as well as dancing – but she can't do that now. She is a student at the Jan Paweł II Primary School in Góra Świętej Małgorzaty. Starting in September, she was supposed to begin fourth grade, but due to her health condition, classes will take place individually at home.
"We start the day with breakfast and medication. Then Amelka draws, reads, rests, and does exercises. If we're at home and the weather is good, we go outside. We miss having meals together, playing board games, walks, bike rides, watching cartoons together, and goodnight hugs."

The parents would like to use the funds raised for Amelka's rehabilitation, so that she can return to the fitness and independence she had before her illness as soon as possible.
