NEW BENEFICIARY JULIAN GOLIŃSKI

My name is Julian Goliński, I am 10 years old and I live in Kędziorki near Brzeziny. I have just finished 5th grade at Primary School No. 3 in Brzeziny. In the future I would like to become an actor because of my sense of humor.

How did I start getting sick? In the summer of 2024, my left leg started to hurt for no known reason. The pain would appear about once a month, and because of it I couldn't sleep or walk. We went to the Emergency Department several times, but the doctors didn't see anything concerning. It was only an X-ray that showed a cortical bone defect. However, the pain didn't go away, and finally, after about half a year and numerous tests, I was diagnosed with a rare bone disease – chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO). After less than a year of treatment, I started feeling pain in the other leg. We thought it was another CRMO focus, but an X-ray showed no changes in the right leg, while revealing an enlarged inflammatory state with infiltration in the left one. Suspicion – malignant bone tumor. Further tests: MRI, contrast X-ray, biopsy and trephine biopsy confirmed the doctors' fears: a malignant tumor of bone and soft tissue – Ewing's sarcoma.

However, this was not the end of the tests and bad news. The last of them (a PET scan) showed a nodule on the L3 vertebra with infiltration between L3 and L4, as well as an affected lymph node in the groin. Treatment began immediately at the Department of Pediatric Oncology at CSK CKD in Łódź, which includes 9 cycles of chemotherapy, made up of 5 chemical agents. The chemotherapy is meant to shrink the tumor, which currently measures 20 cm in length. Further along in the treatment, I will have surgery to remove the tumor, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Immunotherapy may also be necessary – however, it is very costly.

The greatest difficulty for us, Julian's parents, was not the diagnosis itself, but how to tell this little boy about all of it. However, it wasn't the diagnosis that Julian took the hardest – the most depressing piece of information for him was that he would not return to school, neither this school year nor the next. It was extremely hard for him to accept that he would not be able to see his peers every day or exercise during physical education classes. The illness has also taken away his ability to pursue his passions: stunt scootering and keeping spiders.

Julian bears all the chemotherapy sessions very bravely, although there are days when the side effects of the treatment hit him hard. The illness has turned the family's life upside down: Julian now spends more time in the hospital than at home. The family sometimes finds it very hard to organize everything, especially since their daughter has been dealing with a facial capillary malformation for 14 years and also spends a lot of time in the hospital. Still, everyone tries to stick together and support one another.

"I miss school the most, and my classmates, with whom I can currently only keep in touch by phone. It makes me sad, because they are a huge support for me, I can always count on them. I also miss family trips, but I'm not giving up and I keep fighting to regain my health and a normal life," says Julian.

The funds raised will be used for further treatment, consultations, and rehabilitation. Thanks to your support, we believe we will be able to overcome the illness.
