Virtual St. Nicholas Day in oncohematology departments

This year, St. Nicholas Day, organized by the Foundation for Children with Cancer Diseases "Krwinka" in children's oncohematology wards, has taken on a unique dimension. This is thanks to cooperation with the Rakiety Oncological Foundation and Globalworth, which are the initiators of the project entitled "Virtual Journeys with Globalworth". It consists of conducting a series of therapeutic workshops using VR goggles, the aim of which is to provide emotional and psychological support to children struggling with cancer.

"With the help of VR goggles, children undergoing oncological treatment had the opportunity to break away from the reality of the hospital, discover interesting corners, experience new adventures and immerse themselves in a different world, which helps reduce stress levels and discomfort. Globalworth, as a socially responsible company, is involved in various social projects. We are happy to be part of this innovative initiative and contribute to improving the quality of life of young patients,” - says Weronika Kurnatowska, Marketing Manager at Globalworth

Research conducted by Georgetown University School of Medicine and MedStar Health in the United States indicates that short VR sessions can significantly reduce pain in people hospitalized for cancer. Just 10 minutes of immersive VR experience brings relief that can last even the whole day after the session. These results indicate that VR technology is an effective, non-medical tool supporting the improvement of the quality of life of cancer patients.

An essential element of St. Nicholas Day are also gifts. That is why on this day there could be no shortage of holiday gift sets for children and their loved ones. Everyone found something just right for themselves, such as: cosmetics, plush diaries, mascots, puzzles, books, art sets, or holiday decorations - stars and Christmas trees, as well as chocolate lollipops to sweeten everyday life.

"Thanks to the generous support of donors and partners, young patients could forget about the hardships of treatment for a moment and immerse themselves in extraordinary, virtual journeys, which for reasons beyond their control they currently cannot realize in reality." - emphasizes Dominika Śliwińska, director of the "Krwinka" Foundation.

The "Krwinka" Foundation would like to thank all donors and partners who contributed to the organization of this exceptional event: St. Majewski Sp. z o.o., students and teachers from the Complex of Gastronomic Schools in Łódź, SUN-DAY Sp. z o.o., Dr Irena Eris S.A., Eveline Cosmetics Dystrybucja Sp. z o. o. Sp.k. and the partners of the therapeutic project - the Rakiety Oncological Foundation and Globalworth.
