Children's Day is an extremely important moment for the "Krwinka" Foundation team. It is precisely on this occasion that the organization has prepared a unique meeting for young patients of the One-Day Ward at the hospital on Sporna Street and the Pediatric Oncohematology Wards located in the Central Clinical Hospital complex on Pomorska Street in Łódź. Its main goal was to bring a smile to the faces of the Oncoheroes, see the glow in their eyes, and introduce a joyful, warm atmosphere.
A mom is a unique person who will support, care for, and brighten up every day with her warm smile. It is often she who gives the little Oncohero the strength to go through a long process of oncological treatment, and despite difficult challenges, to pursue their passions and dreams. The "Krwinka" Foundation, observing the brave Moms standing constantly by their children's side, decided to appreciate their perseverance and invaluable role. To make them feel noticed and cared for on their special day. That is why each Everyday Heroine received a gift and best wishes, coming straight from the heart.
The educational campaign "Hematology - get to know blood diseases" has started, the aim of which is to improve early diagnostics, support patients and increase awareness among doctors and the public about blood diseases. The Freedom Library is a unique place where you can sit comfortably in a soft armchair and be transported to the fascinating world of books. This is where the next LEGO and programming workshops took place, with the participation of the brave Oncoheroes. The friendly, inspiring atmosphere was conducive to both great fun and discovering the world of new technologies. The meeting began with learning the story of an extraordinary dog artist - a story that moved the children and became an impulse for creative action. Based on it, our Protégés created various works of art from LEGO bricks with great commitment, which after the presentation decorated the workshop room, filling it with colors and joy. After a short break, it was time for the second part of the meeting - coding and programming classes.

In picturesque Rogów, the Family May Day took place once again, in which the Foundation's charges and their loved ones took part. This is a special time - full of smiles, rest and moments spent together, which helps to break away from everyday worries and strengthen family bonds. During the trip, the charges, their siblings and parents could enjoy various attractions, combining fun, relaxation, development and integration. Care was taken to ensure that everyone - both children and adults - could find something for themselves.
A red cape and a bell in his hand - these are the attributes of the brave Oncohero, who has just finished the intensive phase of cancer treatment.
Brave Piotruś had one more thing with him - a beautiful panda bear, which accompanied him throughout the long treatment process. This wonderful boy with a big heart wanted every little patient to also have a plush friend with them, who would support them and give them encouragement. That is why, together with their parents, he prepared a surprise. He gave every child staying in the ward that day the same, black and white teddy bear with a special message in the form of a note.
With the sound of the bell, Nikola began a new phase of her life with a smile on her face.
On April 28, our brave Oncoheroine with her head held high, walked resolutely through the hospital corridor, saying goodbye to the difficult time of treatment and starting a new chapter - dedicated to fulfilling dreams. That day, her smile and unwavering optimism brightened the faces of everyone who participated in the symbolic moment of the end of the intensive phase of treatment. A delicious cake was waiting for Nikola and her loved ones, patients and medical staff, which made the time spent talking and celebrating joyfully more pleasant. The Oncoheroine received many gifts and a diploma with words that gave encouragement and motivation. Such a special day will certainly remain in her memory for a long time.
Our Heroine's name is Laura. She will be 6 in June. She has 2 beloved sisters - Emilka, 12, and Amelia, 3. She comes from Kolonia Grabostów in the Zelów commune. Once, while playing with her sister, Laura accidentally fell out of bed onto the floor. She felt a strong back pain, which went away after a few minutes. After some time, however, the pain returned. We went with our daughter to the family doctor and then to a specialist at the hospital in Bełchatów, where an X-ray was taken. The examination revealed a fracture of the lumbar vertebra. The doctor at the admissions office immediately referred her to the Institute of the Mother's Health Center in Łódź. We went there the same day. A CT scan was performed at the ward, which confirmed a fracture of the lumbar vertebra. Unfortunately, another fracture of the pubic bone in the pelvis was detected. These examinations worried the doctors. They suspected that there must be some other cause of these fractures, because the fall was from a very small height. Bone samples taken during the operation were sent for histopathological examination to Warsaw. After about 3 weeks, the diagnosis came - a focus of neoplastic disease, Langerhans cell histiocytosis at the site of the vertebral fracture.
On the occasion of the upcoming Easter, the "Krwinka" Foundation for Children with Cancer Diseases traditionally organized a special meeting for young Patients of the oncohematology wards at the hospital on Sporna Street and their caregivers. Time spent together, holiday refreshments, and gifts from the Easter bunny brought smiles to the faces of children and parents, and peace and hope - so valuable during the long-term treatment process - settled in their hearts.

At the Wolność Library (Branch No. 39 of the City Library in Łódź) - a unique place where a passion for literature is combined with modern technology and creativity - workshops were held for the "Krwinka" Foundation's charges and their families. Then the brave Oncoheroes set off on a journey to the world of Lego, robotics and programming.
Hello, my name is Oliwka. I am 9 years old and I live with my parents in Piotrków Trybunalski. In February, I had a viral infection, during which my leg muscles hurt. After I was given medication, the pain stopped. A month later, from Sunday to Monday, both of my buttocks hurt a lot, I couldn't get out of bed and I cried a lot. In the afternoon, I went to the doctor with my mother. After examining me, the doctor quickly issued a referral to the Emergency Department at the Institute of the Polish Mother's Health Center in Łódź. At 6 p.m. I showed up at the Emergency Department with my mother and father. After conducting numerous tests, the doctor stated that I had very low hemoglobin and had to stay in the hospital. On Wednesday, after the puncture, an ambulance was called and my mother and I were transported with sirens blaring to the hospital on Sporna Street in Łódź. There I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The children enthusiastically molded, shaped and decorated their little masterpieces, and they were accompanied by unrestrained fun and satisfaction from their own hand-made works. During the workshops, parents had the opportunity to establish new, valuable relationships, engage in fascinating conversations and take a break from everyday worries.
This day will certainly be remembered by little Oncoheroine Amanda and her loved ones!
On March 12, brave Patient Amanda walked through the corridor of the oncohematology ward, holding a golden bell in her hand. Its sound has a special meaning. It symbolizes the end of the intensive treatment phase. At the end of the road, the girl was waiting for wonderful gifts, a delicious cake and a colorful diploma with the best wishes. We had the great pleasure of celebrating this special moment with Amanda, her family and the medical staff and watching her start a new stage of her life.
March is a great opportunity to notice and appreciate everyone who is part of the Pediatrics, Oncology and Hematology Clinic in Łódź. This is the assumption of the "Krwinka" Foundation. On the occasion of Women's Day and Men's Day, it prepared a surprise for people staying in the hospital wards at Sporna Street. Regardless of the role - Patient, Parent, Caregiver, Nurse or Doctor - everyone received a symbolic gift, which was an expression of gratitude and appreciation. These holidays were a great opportunity to remind everyone that everyone matters, and strength and hope come from cooperation.
Oliwier is 15 years old. He lives in Łódź. He is a cheerful, smiling teenager. At first, nothing indicated that our son was ill. However, our attention was drawn to his well-being - he felt increasingly tired and needed more sleep. One day Oliwier told us that his hand was starting to go numb. After this information, we immediately went to the hospital emergency room. The doctors immediately ordered a tomography. During the examination, it turned out that Oliwier had a tumor in his head. A week after the diagnosis, an operation was performed, during which the tumor was partially removed and a biopsy was performed.
This special day brought a lot of joy to the young patients of the Pediatrics, Oncology and Hematology Clinic at the hospital on Sporna Street. Thanks to the initiative of the "Krwinka" Foundation and the generosity of the "Jaś i Małgosia" Bakery and Confectionery, the children could enjoy delicious doughnuts, which brightened up the hospital's everyday life for a moment. The sweet treat made the day more pleasant not only for the children, but also for their parents and guardians, who support their little heroes every day. The medical staff also treated themselves to doughnuts - irreplaceable people who care for the health and comfort of patients with great dedication.

He loves his loved ones, likes solving Rubik's cube, and the Avengers are his favorite heroes. Just like them, he is fighting a great fight - a fight for health and returning to a normal childhood. On March 20, 2024, our lives turned upside down. That day, we took Antoś to the ER with severe abdominal pain and vomiting. Initially, doctors suspected a virus, but an ultrasound and tomography showed something much more serious - a tumor was detected in his kidney. The diagnosis was: Wilms' tumor.
Mikołaj Nadłonek from Sieradz is a 7-year-old boy who has faced a difficult disease. It all started when, while playing before going to bed, Mikołaj's mother felt that there was a hard area on the left side of her abdomen, even though Mikołaj had no other symptoms. On St. Nicholas' Day, the whole family went to the hospital Centrum Zdrowia Matki Polki in Łódź, where an ultrasound was performed. The result of the test was worrying - it turned out that Mikołaj had a tumor on his kidney. We were immediately transported by ambulance with sirens blaring to the hospital on Sporna Street, where further tests were performed, including ultrasound and X-ray. In January of this year, I had a control gastroscopy, during which strange changes in the stomach were noticed. The doctors took samples, performed a biopsy, puncture and after oncological consultations made a diagnosis - rapidly progressing Burkitt's lymphoma.
Leon Gorzelak is 3 years old and lives with his family in a rented apartment in Łódź. He has two brothers - one is 13 years old and the other is 10 months old. Leoś was born prematurely in the 27th week of pregnancy. After birth, he was in the neonatology ward for 2.5 months. When we left the hospital, we were referred to various specialists to rule out any health problems with our son. Fortunately, everything was fine. Since Leon was at home with us, he has been a very happy child. He developed a bit slower than his peers, but apart from that, there were no other problems. A week before we received the diagnosis, Leon started complaining about pain in his right foot. At first, we thought he had hurt himself while playing with his older brother, but a few days later his other foot started hurting. A moment later, our son stopped walking. Leon was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

It was truly a special reason to celebrate together!
On a frosty, winter afternoon, the oncohematology ward was filled with laughter, joy and positive emotions, warming every heart. It was all thanks to the brave Oncohero Maciek, who after many months of hospitalization, finished the intensive phase of treatment. Blanka is 7 years old. She lives in Józefów near Kalisz. In June 2024, she suffered a head injury. A general examination revealed a mild concussion, but unfortunately, a head tomography was not performed. Since then, Blanka has begun to withdraw from physical activity and has been moving very cautiously. In September, isolated headaches began to appear, which quickly passed after rest. There were no other signs of illness. We reported to the family doctor because our daughter did not change her behavior and we thought it might be some problems with the labyrinth. On October 31, we went to the Polish Mother's Health Center in Łódź with a referral. The tests showed minor neurological problems, but a head tomography and MRI changed everything in an instant - a tumor of the skull base with hydrocephalus.
Kacper is a very cheerful and lively child, but the events of November 28, 2024 abruptly interrupted the joy and fun from which Kacper drew energy for each subsequent day of his life. This date will be remembered by our family as one of the worst in his life. It started with ordinary vomiting and headaches, for which we received medication from our pediatrician. Unfortunately, they did not bring any results. We were referred to a neurologist. It must have been some kind of destiny from God, because a place at the doctor's office became available for that day. Otherwise, we would have waited until January 18 for an appointment. Then I don't know what would have happened. During the visit to the neurologist, Kacper began to lose consciousness, so we immediately went to the Institute of the Polish Mother's Health Center in Łódź. After initial tests and a head tomography, it turned out that my son had brain cancer.
December is a special month that brings to mind, above all, the festive atmosphere and family celebration of Christmas. Unfortunately, not all young patients of the oncohematology departments of the CSK UM in Łódź will be able to spend these days with their loved ones. Marcelina Staniec is 2 years and 11 months old. She lives in a small village of Celestynów in the Opoczno district. Our neighborhood is quiet. Most of the neighbors know our daughter and like her very much. At one point, we became concerned that Marcelina was losing her appetite, had no strength to walk, got tired quickly, and wanted to be carried in our arms most of the time. We went with our daughter to the family doctor, who diagnosed pneumonia. The specialist prescribed antibiotics, inhalations, and we returned home. After a few days, I noticed that the proposed treatment did not help. On the night of March 30, Marcelina became short of breath. We went to the emergency room at the hospital in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The doctor examined our daughter, changed the antibiotic, and gave a referral to the ward in case a similar situation repeated itself. We returned home. The antibiotics seemed to be working. On April 2, we had a check-up with our family doctor, who said that we should go to the hospital with a referral.

My name is Ola Kaczmarek. I live in Łódź, Bałuty. At the beginning of 2024, I started having trouble tilting my head back while washing my hair, but my mother thought it was some kind of contracture. She tested me for Lyme disease because I had been bitten by a tick twice. The tests showed that everything was fine. Nothing hurt, I jumped, ran, rode a bike, skateboarded and rollerbladed and danced - dancing is what I love most in the world. Only this small problem with tilting my head back. I went to kindergarten and was always energetic and lively - "quicksilver they said". My mother reported the problem to the pediatrician, but after the examination and interview with my mother, the doctor did not see any disturbing symptoms. We returned home with the recommendation to apply painkillers to my neck. At the beginning of March, I started having nighttime neck pain. After the whole day, I went to bed exhausted, and an hour later I was woken up by a terrible pain in the back of my neck.

The doctor claimed that he was forcing me to be ill, but despite this, my mother made a private appointment with a pediatric oncologist. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to get there.

Physical activity after the completion of oncohematological treatment plays a very important role in the gradual recovery of health. Simple physical exercises increase the body's efficiency, improve well-being, have a positive effect on the mental state, and above all reduce the risk of relapse and other chronic diseases. However, encouraging a child to exercise after leaving the hospital requires an individual approach that takes into account both their physical and emotional needs and capabilities.

After the examination in the office, she ordered a blood test. In a few hours, the doctor came to us with the results and called an ambulance.

Hello, we are the parents of Nikola Banaszek. Nikolka was born on October 27, 2010. She was a healthy, energetic girl. Until something bad started happening to her. In 2019, our daughter started feeling bad, vomiting, getting weak, had no strength to do anything, and had a headache. We went to hospital. There we heard that our Nikolka uses her mobile phone too much, but we did not give up... and rightly so. We went privately to a neurologist, a wonderful woman who did not ignore the symptoms. She immediately sent us to the hospital for tests. There she had an MRI done, which unfortunately revealed a brain tumor measuring 16.5mm/18mm/16mm. We were terrified and devastated by the diagnosis.
Adaś is 8 years old. He lives in the center of Łódź. On September 1 last year, he went to school for the first time. He was happy to meet new friends and learn. Previously, he complained of abdominal pain, which disappeared quickly. The pediatrician who treated him at the local clinic was informed about this ailment and palpated his belly. Since he didn't feel anything alarming, he didn't think there was a need for further diagnosis. Adaś was a lively, cheerful and curious child and there was no indication that anything was wrong. It was only when a bulge appeared on the right side of his stomach and he vomited bile that we immediately went to the hospital. The ultrasound examination turned out to be devastating. It showed the presence of a tumor in the kidney.
